Mama Claire et moi.
Well, its officially the holiday season right? Thanksgiving was this week and we had a party with all the trainees and trainers. I was on the stuffing committee, which turned out awesome, even though there was no turkey to stuff nor was there a stove to bake it in. All things considered, I think we did a great job. Thanks to Allison we pulled it all together. Pictures on Cara's blog ('Cameroon Caper', see right side of page).
Training is almost over. We are all a bit frustrated with the way things have been going here. It seems like there are lots of hoops we have to jump through and 'things' that have to be completed in order to 'graduate'. I feel like I'm in high school trying to finish all my last minute homework so that i can go to the dance on Friday.
Our family continues to feed us and keep us safe, and think that we are strange. Its cold here in the mornings. Which means its about 70 degrees or so at 6am. Maybe 65 on a really cold morning. the water that sits in our jugs gets a little chilly over night, so my morning bucket bath actually makes me gasp. Yesterday morning i didnt have any water left because SNEC was turned off again, so my mother gave me some of the hot water off the fire. it was wonderful. This morning they gave us more warm water to bathe with. I sure will miss them when we leave.
We finally got some letters up here. The staff forgot to check the post office in Yaounde last time someone came up, so we havent had mail in weeks. Yesterday someone showed up with a whole box of letters for us. Some of them got to Cameroon in October. Hopefully mail at post will be a bit faster. We are going to open a PO Box in January, but until then you can still send things to the Yaounde address. Also, i sent out some letters to people but I have no idea how long they will take to get there. I realize that there are so many people that I dont have addresses for...Emily, Talia, Jim and Becky for example! Or anyone from Cincinnati! Also, Allison, I cant find your new one.
I promise that if you write me a letter i'll respond. I just sent my first ones out a few weeks ago, but now that we'll be at post, I should have much more time to write, or at least have interesting things to say.
Ok, love you all, next time you hear from me, I'll actually be a Volunteer, no longer a Trainee.
